ABOUT
LES GITANS BLANCS band started as a project in 2008 by Visual Artist, Art Educator and Musician Robert Zunic. They were first concerting in Adelaide and around South Australia. However, LGB’s have also performed internationally and interstate on a number of concerts/festivals.
“The White Gypsies” have performed on many live radio shows and festivals, including Womadelaide, Kite Festival in Singapore, Auburn Frenchfest, Bastille day celebration,
Adelaide Guitar Festival, Cabaret Fringe Festival, TV Channel 9 - Today Show,
3D Radio-live concert, Adelaide, Radio Adelaide-live concert.
Throughout years, many musicians contributed, performed, and ultimately added a flavour and left their mark on the sound, development and direction of the band. Musicians Robert Zunic, Dido Durmanovic, Chris Martin, Lyndon Grey, Tomislav Kovacev, Ben Parkin, Julian Ferraretto, Elizabeth McCall, John Hunt, Julian Pitch, Pascal Nigon, Roly Dankbaar and Nebojša Miletić have been a part of the LGB Project, collaborating and creating that recognisable specific flavour and sound.
Over the years, LGB’s have performed as a duo, trio, quartet, quintet, and even as an orchestra, all
depending on the demand. No gig is “too big, or too small” for the White Gypsies Project,
as they love music and performing.
“Les Gitans” have recorded and released two albums featuring original music, as well as some popular Gypsy jazz anthems. Macro was released in early 2014 and Blue Django in late 2019.
LES GITANS BLANCS PROJECT is a synergy of personalities-musicians of garish milieu, both in ethnicity as well as in musical flavour and provenience. Their repertoire represents a reflection of the general “spirit of the moment”, performing on acoustic instruments infectious tunes that, better than any iPod ever could, get into your ear and straight into your tapping legs, clapping hands, and snapping fingers. Their music is inspired by musicians such as Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grappelli, as well as many traditional and contemporary gypsy jazz musicians around the World. Performing original music and some timeless melodies “The Gypsies” music was described as Manouche swing, Gypsy Jazz, or World music… they just call it MUSIC.
The latest cast of the LES GITANS BLANCS PROJECT is an inspirational communication and banter
between Manouche Swing and Jazz musicians. Four great musicians come together in this project to
explore, learn, teach, communicate and create the Urban Manouche Swing ...and Gypsy Jazz, ...and Jazz, and ...World Music and.... well, (although one should not repeat oneself)
shall we just call it MUSIC.
